CHS splits with McKenzie on Homecoming night
The McKenzie Lady Rebels snuck into the CHS gym and stole an overtime win from the Lady Lions, 58-53. The Lions roared with a huge District 11-AA win over the Rebels in the nightcap, 67-50 to seal the 2004 CHS Homecoming victory that wasn't ever really in danger...
The Lady Lions were powered by Jenna Evans and Savannah Cox in the first to lead 12-10 after one. Savannah continued her streak with 6 in the second, and the Lady Lions were up 23-16 at the break. Balanced Black & Gold scoring was seen the third period, with Carmen Medina and Savannah Cox scoring four each, and it was a six-point game 35-29. With 4:04 left in regulation, a technical foul was called on the McKenzie coach and Carmen made it a 42-35 game. Suddenly the Lady Rebs couldn't miss, the last 45 seconds we were all tied at 46 and we were into a four-minute overtime.The turnover bug continued to haunt the Lady Lions with four in the overtime period (20+ for the night), and McKenzie took the win, 58-53.

The Camden Lions rode an early shooting surge and efficient ball-handling all the way to a District win over the McKenzie Rebels. With only four turnovers for the game, the Lions were in control of the game from start to finish. With 5:03 left in the first, Brian French drained a three from the left corner to make it an 11-2 game, and the McKenzie coach called a time out. Kyle Harris scored from the point with two-three pointers and led the Lions with 8 first period points to a 19-7 lead. Jarrod Bain turned up the scoring heat in the second with 4 points and a blocked shot, and CHS was on top 31-18 at the half.
Jarrod continued where he left off, and was able to score 8 points in the third. With 5:04 showing, Jarrod slammed one down to make it 40-24, and the McKenzie bench took a time out. In the fourth, it was raining three's, as Brian French, Ben Reed, Tyrone Robinson, and Josh Guajardo were able to score from behind the arc to seal the victory, 67-50. Coach Barry Martin allowed the Seniors to come out of the game one at the time so that they could show their appreciation for Kyle Harris, Ben Hampton, Ben Reed, and Jarrod Bain. Congrats to the Lions of a big District 11-AA victory!
