Camden takes two at Bruceton
The Lady Lions traveled across the Big Sandy River and defeated the Hollow Rock-Bruceton Central Lady Tigers 52-45 Friday night. It was a close game from the opening tip-off, with CHS being led by Carmen Medina's four points to a 12-all first period score. Jenna Evans found the range on her three-point shot in the second and nailed two on her way to an 8-point second period. With 1:10 left in the second, Erin Latendresse fired a slick inside pass to Evans and her lay-up finished the half with Camden up, 26-18.
The turnover virus struck the Lady Lions in the third, and it helped HR-B work their way back into the game. With 2:50 left in the 3rd they tied it at 28-all. Savannah Cox & Carmen Medina scored four each to help give CHS back the edge after three, 36-32, but everyone knew this game wasn't over...
Carmen Medina was strong inside all night, and finished the fourth with six points and a blocked shot. The Lady Tigers couldn't generate any points outside and were finally forced to foul to try to catch up. With 1:45 remaining, Anna Martin was fouled in the back court and made both of the "one-and-one" shots to put Camden up 45-37! 45 seconds left as Martin is fouled immediately after receiving the inbound pass, and her two shots make it 51-41. One last Martin free throw finishes it at 52-45, and the Lady Lions notch the "home & away" victory over HR-B!
Scoring for Camden:
Carmen Medina - 18
Savannah Cox - 12
Jenna Evans - 12
Anna Martin - 10
The Lady Lions enter the last week of the regular season with a game at Clarksburg Tuesday night Feb 10th and the final home game will be against Huntingdon Thursday night, both games will start at 6:30 PM.
GO LADY LIONS!
The Camden Lions fought off a Bruceton Tiger team that just wouldn't quit Friday night to claim a 75-67 road win. Ben Reed kept the Lions in the game early with his 7 points, but Camden trailed after one, 17 -15. The second period scoring was in inside victory for the Lions, with Jarrod Bain and Desmond Zollicoffer over-powering the Tigers. Jarrod and Desmond notched 6 points each in the second. Zollicoffer slammed it down with 3:15 left to give CHS a 27-25 lead, but Camden trailed by two after Kyle Harris's shot at the buzzer, 33-31.
Coach Barry Martin used the halftime to make some lineup adjustments, and the Lions were on the court for one of their best periods of the year. Brian French knocked down two critical three point shots, the last one with 4:40 in the 3rd to make it a 41-35 ballgame! Ben Reed controlled the paint and marked 6 points in three tries to give CHS a great inside-outside look early in the third. Bain & Zollicoffer did damage the last half of the period and Camden sprinted into the fourth with their biggest lead to that point of the game, 54-43! Great job, Lions!
The Black & Gold were able to make their foul shots that came in droves; Desmond made both ends of a 1+1 and it was 56-46 with 6:41 left.
