The 2009 Camden Lions football team blasted out of summer camp and into theschool year as CHS started back Wednesday. Head Football Coach Kevin Ward &his staff had the Lions into heavy drills and wind sprints after the firstday of classes. Talking with Coach Ward about the summer camp: "It was agood camp. Maybe one of the best we have had here, considering the teams'attitude & the coaches' orderly logistics of moving everyone around. Evenwith the bad weather, we got a lot accomplished & look forward to gettingthis team ready to play."The coaching staff was working the team hard with a strong dose ofconditioning and focus on the practice field. This team will need its focusconsidering the "different" 2009 schedule: "I like the fact that we will beplaying some new teams. You can get bogged down in a rut with the sameschedule year after year. It is exciting, but it's good to have some newexcitement. This TSSAA alignment brings that to us with new Districtopponents Creek Wood, Cheatham County, Harpeth and Montgomery Central on theschedule; teams that we haven't played since I have been here. Plus, we werestill able to maintain some long-time rivalry games with Bruceton, McKenzie,Huntingdon, and Westview as non-District games. If we can add Milan in thefuture, we will do that; it just didn't work out this year."
Coach Ward also talked about the coaching change this year: "Matt Sturdivantis going to take over a church in Bruceton & we wish him the best. JohnTaylor is our new coach that comes to us from Huntingdon, just graduatingfrom Lipscomb University. We are glad to have John on our staff. He will beteaching history and will coach wide receivers, defensive line plus assistwith our freshman program."
The 2009 Lions will be scrimmaging Davidson Academy at Wright Field at 6 PM.They have 3 out of the last 4 State Championships, & will bring a Juniortailback that was a Mr. Football finalist last year, already has 4000 careeryards; Coach Paul Wade & Coach Ward coached together during the East-WestAll-Star game. On Friday August 14th, the Lions will scrimmage West Carrollduring the 3rd quarter at the Huntingdon Jamboree. Let's all support ourLions as they use these games to prepare for the season home opener againstMcKenzie on August 21st.
