Camden splits with Bruceton

The Camden Lady Lions defeated the Bruceton Lady Tigers at CHS gym 62-48, while the Lions just missed a victory over the Tigers, 52-50.

The night started with a Camden JV Lady Lions win over Bruceton, 48-32. Congrats to all of the members of the JV squad! The Lady Lions had their work cut out for them to beat a very physical Lady Tigers team that wouldn't quit. Coach Karen Cox threw the full-court pressure at them right out of the chute, and it was good for a 9-2 run. The Lady Lions pushed it to an 11-4 first period score when Carmen Medina fed the ball to Jenna Evans just inside the right side of the arc and she drilled the two-pointer. The Lady Tigers came stormin' back, and took the lead at the halftime buzzer, 24-23 Bruceton. The third period was hard-fought, and it ended with Camden on top, 43-40. The Lady Lions stole the ball and scored to start an 8-0 run, and it was all Camden down the stretch. Lacey stole the ball at midcourt and made the lay up to end it 62-48 Lady Lions!

Scoring for the Lady Lions:

Carmen Medina 14
Karen Farmer 12
Jenna Evans 9
Lacey Cagle 8
Heather Dillon 7
Brittany Berry 7
Sandra Farmer 3
Anna Martin 2

Carmen Medina finished with a "double-double", notching 11 rebounds, Sandra Farmer and Anna Martin both had 5 a piece. Jenna Evans led with 3 steals, while Sandra Farmer and Anna Martin both had 3 assists. The Lady Lions are scheduled to play the Lexington Lady Tigers to decide 2nd place in the District on Monday night.

GO LADY LIONS!

The Camden Lions were looking to revenge a loss to Bruceton at their house last month, and came up one shot short of pulling it off last Friday as Camden lost to Bruceton, 50-52. The game started off with the patented "alley-oop" pass to a high-flying Jarrod Bain for two. Bain continued to soar, and with 3:35 showing on the clock, he made the front end of a "one-and-one" that gave him his 1000th career point! Coach Barry Martin called a time out and the crowd applauded the Junior's achievement. Brock Martin made his 1000th career point during the McKenzie game earlier this year. Congrats to BOTH deserving players on this achievement! The first period ended with Brock taking the inbound pass and burying a 3-pointer from the top of the arc to make it 19-13 CHS.

Brock Martin helped fuel a Lions surge by knocking all three 3-point foul shots with 3:01 left in the half to make it 28-23 Lions. Camden took a 34-31 advantage into the lockers. It was slightly closer after three, with a 42-41 one point Camden lead and everyone was expecting the close finish. With 2:35 left, Jarrod took the ball "coast-to-coast" and made the one-handed slam to post a 50-49 score. Camden couldn't make the foul shots to close it out, and a desperation shot at the buzzer just missed to seal the Bruceton win. Congratulations to the Lions on an excellent effort.

Scoring for the Lions:

Jarrod Bain 17
Brock Martin 15
Ben Reed 6
Josh Boyd 6
Brandon Sims 4

The Lions are set to play the Lexington Tigers at the LHS gym on Monday, Feb 10, for a makeup "snow-out" game. Let's all make the trip to Lexington and cheer our Lions on to a win to seal 2nd place in Region 6, District 11-A!
