Huntingdon slips by Camden
CHS came within four points of bringing back two victories over Huntingdon in hard-fought games held at HHS Thursday, Feb. 13th. The Lady Lions missed a win by a blown whistle and lost 51-52. The Lions matched the Mustangs all night long, tied at 12 after one, 25-23 HHS at the half, and a 3 point Huntingdon lead after three, 40-43. The final score was 60-61 Mustangs.
The Lady Lions started with a bad stretch of cold shooting, and with 2:40 left in the first period, Lacey Cagle made a jumper from just inside the key to score Camden's first points. The Lady Lions worked hard to get within six at the half, 21-15. The surge continued after the break, and with 17.3 seconds left in the third, Carmen Medina's free throw made it 30-29 Camden! Both teams showed great hustle, and with 34.2 seconds left to play, Huntingdon took a time out, Camden led 49-48. A very controversial call and a non-call in the final seconds gave the Fillies a huge break, and they made their foul shots to steal one from the Lady Lions with a 51-52.
Scoring for the Lady Lions:
Carmen Medina 13
Jenna Evans 13
Karen Farmer 12
Brittany Berry 8
Lacey Cagle 5
Anna Martin paced the Lady Lions with 4 assists and Lacey Cagle managed 3 steals. Carmen Medina had 3 blocks and controlled the boards with 9 rebounds. Karen Farmer was 4 of 4 from the stripe, while Jenna Evans dropped 5 of 6 in.
The Lady Lions will play the Carroll Academy Lady Jaguars on Valentine's night, let's all make the trip back to Huntingdon to cheer our girls on to a final regular season game victory!
GO LADY LIONS!
The Camden Lions took the floor and were ready to match up with the Mustangs from the tip. Ben Reed controlled the tip to Brock Martin, Brock spotted Brian French open at the arc, and Brian drained the three to pace the Lions early. It was 12-all after one, and with 3:14 left in the half, Jarrod Bain grabbed a rebound and banked it back in to tie the game at 21-all. Camden went into the locker down two, 23-25 at the half.
The Lions stayed with them thru the third and Brock Martin drained a "three" at the buzzer to make it 40-43 'Stangs. Camden just couldn't pull into the lead down the stretch, consistently trailing by 3 or 4 points. With 35.3 seconds left, Brock sank a jump shot just outside of the free throw line to bring us to within two, 58-60. The Mustangs made one foul shot on their possession, and with 9.5 seconds left, our three point shot just missed. Our inbound pass to the corner looked like it might be the play, but the three missed, and a "put-back" two-point shot was made just as the horn sounded. Congratulations to the Lions on a huge effort!
Scoring for the Lions:
Jarrod Bain 19
Brock Martin 14
Ben Reed 9
Brian French 7
Josh Boyd 3
Brandon Sims 2
The Lions finish the regular season with a game at Carroll Academy on Friday, Feb. 14th. Let's all make the trip to Huntingdon to support our team!
