Dresden slides past Camden, 34-13

The Camden Lions lost a tough "out-of-Region" road game to the Dresden Lions, 34-13. They won the coin toss and deferred to the second half, so the CHS Lions return team took the field. The kick was high and short, so Daniel Woodall grabs it and makes it to our 38-yard line before he is stopped. Camden's offense is on the field and the first give is to Josh Boyd around left end for a pick up of 6. Heath Yoder follows the blocks of John Hodge, Josh Beasley, and Jeremy Stokes for a gain of 7 and a first down! Boyd follows Stokes around right end and picks up 8. They catch Boyd in the backfield for a loss of two, and with 10 minutes left in the first it's a CHS third down on their 43. Yoder slips thru the right guard hole for a first down at their 30! Boyd sprints around right end for a gain of 4. The double handoff to Maurice Gastelum is stopped for no gain, but the throw from Ben Tinkle to Maurice sprinting across the right flat gives Camden a first down at the Dresden seven-yard line! Great pass and catch! Yoder pushes the stack for two, but the handoff to Boyd is smothered for a loss back to the ten. The throw into the end zone is intercepted and run out to the five-yard line where Dresden will start first and ten. Tough break, Camden.

7:04 in the first, and the Black & Gold defense is on the field. Josh Guajardo and Shane Corbitt combine for a stop after a pickup of 3. Fake left go right works way too good, and the defensive backs finally stop him at the 37. The big Dresden back busts the middle for a first down at their 47. Heath Yoder, Kyle Moore, and Dennis Will combine for a stop after a gain of 3. Another run up the middle moves the pile way back to our 36. As the first down play starts left, Dennis Will makes a great solo stop after only 3. 4 minutes showing, and they get 4 yards to make it 3rd & 3 at our 30. Three plays later Yoder busts the ball carrier and recovers the fumble on our 17-yard line, CHS first down! With one minute left in the first, a CHS pass is tipped, and Dresden recovers and gets to the 13 before Yoder puts him down. Two plays later, they score. Ryne Haynie is able to down the Dresden QB on the two-point attempt and the 2nd quarter starts with a 6 - zip Dresden lead.

Josh Guajardo fields the Dresden kick, and he makes a great run back to our 40. After he is down, the ball comes out and the refs let them run it back to our 20, Dresden first down! Tough deal twice! Three plays later, they score on a run around right end. They kick it thru after a delay of game penalty, and with 10:45 left in the half, its 13-0 Dresden. Guajardo takes the kick from the two to our 29, and the CHS offense comes out needing a score. Fake to Boyd, give to Yoder moves it 8. Give it to Boyd on 2nd down and he is able to make the right edge and the 45. Yoder stuffed for no gain. Tinkle gives it to Boyd gives it to Haynie, and Ryne is able to pick his way thru the Dresden defense for a first down 'way down at their 47! Great play!

Boyd is hemmed in for no gain, and Ben Tinkle rolls left and runs for two. The screen pass to Boyd works great and Josh is finally knocked down at the nine! Great play! Josh Beasley is hurt on the play, and after the injury time out Logan Plant comes in as the back up center for the remainder of the game. The double handoff ends up with Haynie loose in the backfield, and he threads his way into the end zone for a CHS score! The point after misses, so with 6:22 left before the break it's a 13-6 game.

The Dresden Lions take the kick to their 33 and start a six play scoring drive. The kick is good and with 4:39 showing it's a 20-6 game. Each team has one more possession, but at half it's still a 20-6 game. Both bands perform at half, and Clay Carruth trys the onside kick. They recover and start at their 48. They start a 9-play drive that is stopped by a Yoder and Will combination tackle on our 14-yard line on fourth down, CHS ball. The offense can't get rollin', and Ben Tinkle punts it to their 45. Yoder and Haynie tag him hard, the ball is loose and it is Camden's ball at their 38! Great job! Tinkle throws it to Haynie, but the double coverage is too much, incomplete. Josh Boyd takes the handoff and thanks Daniel Woodall for an excellent block on the corner and hits the left sideline quick. He is finally run out of bounds at the 17, but it's a CHS first down! Tinkle fakes the give to Boyd and Jesse Leonard gets the call up the middle and scores! Six minutes in the third, and Clay Carruth bangs the extra point thru to make it a 13-20 game.

Clay is stoked and bangs the kick deep left. The coverage is there, and Dresden starts on the 24. The CHS defense takes the field ready to make a stop. Yoder and Justin Smith stay at home when the runner starts left, and he only gets two. The runner bangs the middle and is finally stopped at their 36, first down Dresden. The QB rolls right, everyone is covered and as he starts to run, Shane Corbitt and Maurice Gastelum stop him after a gain of 4. It's a CHS jailbreak in the Dresden backfield that allows Woodall, Moore, Haynie, and Markham to drop him for a loss of 7! Great play defense! The pass is incomplete, and Haynie downs it at our 36. Three minutes left in the third and Yoder moves it up the middle for 3. Ryne Haynie starts left, cuts back, and makes it 3rd & 1! 1:56 showing, we line it up, they jump, and it's a first down at their 49! The drive stalls, and with under a minute left, the punt backs the returner inside the 10. Yoder misses him there, but is able to get up and still make the stop with Shawn French at the 22.

The Dresden Lions start an eight play scoring drive that stretches to the 9:56 mark of the 4th quarter to make it 27-13 after the kick. The ensuing kick was fumbled and recovered, but CHS had to start at the five. The second down run is fumbled, and they punch it in from the one three plays later. The kick is good, and it's a 34-13 game. Heath Yoder is shaken up with 6:51 left in the third. The ambulance is required and is gone on a call, so the 25 minute wait causes both coaches to call the game as it is.

Camden finishes the season with a home regional game against the Chester County Eagles. The Quarterback Club will host a Tailgate Party starting at 5:45 PM behind the Stadium. Bring enough soup, chili, or hot food for yours plus one more and the Quarterback Club will provide the paper products, drinks, and ice.

There will be a Senior Night Ceremony starting at 7 PM with everyone invited to Wright Field to honor Senior players, cheerleaders, managers, and band members. The Miss Sorghum Beauty Pageant winners will be on the field at half time to be recognized.

Let's all come out to Wright Field Friday night and support the Lions as they play hard to beat Chester County in their last game in the 2002 season!

GO LIONS!
