1924 Camden Bulldogs Football

Head Coach: Williams

Camden High School had never had a football team until this year. When Coach Williams issued the call for candidates for the gridiron, about twenty men responded. Altogether, there were eight games played. Games were contested with such high school teams as Waverly, Lexington, McKenzie, and Groves High, of Paris. It was in our third game, while playing against Grove High, at Paris, that the first touchdown for the CHS Bulldogs was made, “Nick” making an 81-yard dash across the white line. The season was closed triumphantly with a 12 to 7 victory over the All Stars.

The heart of every CHS player was saddened soon after the close of the season by the untimely death of our beloved manager, Purcelle Watson.

To our coach, to the students, and to the citizens of the town, we are greatly indebted for their hearty cooperation and support, which has enabled us to secure a splendid athletic field and good equipment, thereby laying the foundation for the better athletics in CHS.
